The Maori Purposes Bill introduced to Parliament on 13 June 2006 proposes a closing date of 1 September 2008 for new historical Treaty claims to be submitted to the Waitangi Tribunal. Historical claims lodged on or before 1 September 2008 will not be prevented from being amended in any way after that date.
