The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal has found a new teacher guilty of serious misconduct for smacking a preschool child for misbehavior and for threatening to smack another child.

Both actions are illegal under the Education Act and in breach of the Teachers Council Code of Ethics.

The events were held to be at the lower end of the scale and were dealt with by a formal censure, annotation of the teacher’s record, notification for three years to any employer (or prospective employer), completion of an anger management course to be approved by the Teachers Council and a Ministry of Education course on teacher behavior.
