Teacher deregistered for disciplining relative’s children…
The Teachers’ Disciplinary Tribunal has deregistered a teacher who was convicted of several assaults on children living in his care. These included striking with the hand, a wooden spoon and a stick.
The teacher had been sentenced to home detention for the assaults that were regarded by the Court as taking the form of old-fashioned discipline that is no longer appropriate.
The Tribunal held that there was no reasonable alternative to striking the teacher off the roll.
