An employee has fallen off a roof of a single story house while helping with demolition work. The employee suffered concussion and fractures to his thigh bone and kneecap.

The District Court sentenced and charged the employer under the Health and Safety in Employment Act for failing to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of its employees.

The employee was not trained and had inadequate personal protection gear. The employer failed to provide the employee with a safety harness and there was no fall protection in place despite roof work being inherently risky.

The employer was fined $50,000 and ordered to pay $10,000 in reparation to the injured employee.
