Employer fined $4,000 when worker injured
A failure to properly plan the way work was done resulted in a worker being injured when driving an unsuitable vehicle. The employer has been fined $4,000 plus $1,500 to be paid to the worker because they failed to take all practicable steps to ensure the worker’s safety.
In this case the place of employment was a vineyard in Blenheim but the need to have safety plans in place applies to every work place. Employers must identify hazards and then take all practicable steps to eliminate them. If they cannot be eliminated then they must be isolated as much as possible.
