Teacher censured for smacking own child...

The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal has found a teacher guilty of serious misconduct for smacking her own child at home.

The teacher smacked her child (aged 2) on the thigh with a ruler at home.  A teacher at the child’s preschool notice a red mark on the child’s thigh.  The matter was reported to the teacher’s employer and a warning was issued.  An anonymous complaint was made to Oranga Tamariki and the Police investigated.  A formal warning for assault was issued by the Police.

The Tribunal found that the teacher was guilty of serious misconduct.  It censured her and ordered that she disclose the findings to any prospective employer for 12 months.
