Employer penalised $180,000 for faulty induction process…
An employee has died after being run over by a truck on his first day of work.
The District Court convicted the employer under the Health and Safety in Employment Act for failing to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of the employee.
The employer failed to ensure that the employee was adequately trained and had been properly inducted into the workplace.
The employer was fined $80,000 and was ordered to pay $100,000 in reparation.
Employers must remember that they have an obligation to ensure that all persons who enter their workplace are either competent or are undergoing supervised training.
