The Licensed Building Practitioners Board has found a builder guilty of negligence and incompetence and also of bringing the profession into disrepute.

There were multiple failures with the building work undertaken, including delays leading to deterioration of the framing due to exposure to the elements.  The builder had provided the wrong plans to sub-contractors, leading to wrong work being done and therefore the building failing building inspections because the work done was not in accordance with the consents.

In addition the builder’s actions brought the profession into disrepute because he sub-contracted out the work in breach of the building contract and made an unethical financial gain from fraudulent documents.

The Board cancelled the builder’s licence for six months to protect the public. The builder was also ordered to pay $2,000 costs.
