Teacher’s registration cancelled after police vet picks up criminal convictions…
The New Zealand Teacher’s Council discovered a teacher’s criminal convictions when she reapplied for her teacher’s registration. The teacher had been convicted in the District Court of offences involving fraud. Each conviction was punishable by 3 months or more imprisonment.
The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal censured the teacher and ordered the cancellation of her registration as the convictions were serious and had not been reported to the Teachers Council.
The teacher failed to participate in the Complaints Assessment Committee’s investigation and chose not to cooperate with the Tribunal. The Tribunal interpreted her non-involvement in the disciplinary process to mean that the teacher was not interested in retaining her registration.
