A primary school teacher has been acquitted of criminal charges for indecency after he inappropriately tickled students over and under their clothing. The teacher smacked two female students on the bottom in order to hurry them along, and would grab others by the ankles and would hold them upside down.

The teacher’s school was also concerned about how the teacher would give students horse bites and ‘horsey rides’ on his lap. The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal noted that this behaviour did not occur in front of other adults which showed that the teacher was aware of the inappropriate nature of his conduct.

The Tribunal censured the teacher for serious misconduct, and cancelled his registration.
