An early childhood teacher failed to notify her prospective employer that she was the subject of a mandatory report at her previous place of employment, and that she was currently undergoing a competence assessment. The teacher was accused of yelling at a two year old child, and of psychological abuse. The teacher has since been dismissed by the employer after her omissions were revealed.

The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal held that the persistent and deliberate concealment of her employment history, of a mandatory report, and of a competence process, over an extended period of time, had brought discredit to the teaching profession. The Tribunal found that her actions reflected adversely on her fitness to practice, and considered her de-registration necessary in order to protect the public and the integrity of the profession. The Tribunal also censured the teacher for her serious misconduct.

The Tribunal was particularly concerned by the teacher’s continued attempts to justify her behaviour, and noted that she never accepted that she was dishonest.
