Teacher censured after fifth drink-driving conviction…
A teacher has been convicted for drink-driving in the District Court and censured by the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal. This was the teacher’s fifth drink driving conviction which the Teachers Council only became aware of when the teacher tried to re-register.
The Tribunal acknowledged that the past convictions were historical having occurred over a 40 year period with the last taking place 14 years ago. The Tribunal took into account the teacher’s competency and the fact that she was unlikely to re-offend.
The Tribunal noted that the teacher had sought counseling and had gained a greater understanding of the gravity of her crimes.
