Teacher acting drunk at school causes concern…
A teacher has been charged with serious misconduct after bringing a bottle of vodka into school and acting drunk in front of a classroom of students. The teacher has since resigned from the school.
The Teacher’s Disciplinary Tribunal noted that the teacher had been suffering from ongoing stress and depression and is currently seeking treatment for her condition. The Tribunal concluded that the teacher was not currently fit to teach due to her ongoing health issues.
When investigating the matter, the Complaints Assessment Committee also found that the teacher had been convicted, for a second time, for driving while under the influence of alcohol. The teacher had previously appeared before the CAC in relation to the matter.
The Tribunal censured the teacher and suspended her practising certificate for a period of 18 months or until she was declared fit to practise by the Education Council. The Tribunal also ordered the decision to be annotated to the teachers register.
