The Ngati Mutunga Claims Settlement Bill passed its first reading in Parliament on 27 July 2006 and has been referred to Select Committee.
The Ngati Mutunga Deed of Settlement, signed in July 2005, settles all of Ngati Mutunga’s historical Taranaki-based Treaty of Waitangi claims. The settlement package contains a formal Crown apology, cultural redress, and commercial and financial redress to a total value of $14.9 million.
