1 September 2011 marks the commencement of the  “three strikes” law.

Telcos are now able to issue infringement notices for alleged copyright infringement through internet use (file sharing).  This includes illegal downloads of film, music or written material.

The telcos may issue three warnings, which will then lead to a hearing before the Copyright Tribunal, and a fine of up to $15,000.

If you are the account holder for a shared computer at home or work you will need to be extra vigilant on how the computer is being used.
