Feedback sought on how to protect vulnerable employees

This week the Labour Minister released a discussion document seeking feedback on ways to strengthen enforcement of minimum employment standards. The Ministry’s goal is to stamp out exploitation and protect workers’ rights and entitlements under the law to things such as the minimum wage and annual leave.

Particular causes of concern include systemic breaches of minimum standards for migrant workers, and of vulnerable workers such as young people.

The discussion document is called Playing by the rules: Strengthening enforcement of employment standards and comments are invited by 23 July 2014.
