The Health & Disability Commissioner has found a nurse to be in breach of the Patients’ Code of Rights after the nurse gave medication to the patient, but did not record the medication in the patient’s notes.  The nurse made no notes at the time she saw the patient but wrote the notes the following day and did not record the two medicines she had given to the patient.

The Commissioner recommended that the nurse apologise to the patient and the Commissioner also referred the matter to the Nursing Council for review of the nurse’s competence.
