The Employment Relations Authority has penalised an employer $40,000 for failing to pay minimum wages, failing to pay holiday pay and not keeping accurate wage and time records.

The employer was found to have altered time records without the employees’ knowledge or consent, so underpaying hours.  The employer also recorded longer unpaid breaks than the employees were taking, again resulting in underpayments.

In addition to the $40,000 penalty the employer has also been ordered to pay over $33,000 in back pay to its employees.
