Employee trip earns $70,000 penalties
The District Court has convicted and fined a painting and decorating company $50,000 and ordered $20,000 reparation after one of its employees tripped and fell over at work. The problem in this case was that when the employee tripped he was standing on a roof and fell off the building. He suffered facial and arm injuries from the fall. The other problem for the employer was that there was no edge protection on the roof where the employees were working. The employees were also not trained on the need for edge protection when working at heights.
