A teacher has been convicted in the District Court on several charges of assault.

The registered teacher brutally attacked his former wife on several occasions in front of their children, and has since been sentenced to 7 months home detention.

The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal noted that there is no room in New Zealand schools for a teacher who has offended at such a serious level.

The teacher took no part in the disciplinary proceeding which lead the Tribunal to infer that the teacher had no interest in retaining his registration.

The Tribunal censured the teacher and cancelled his registration.
