The Medical Practitioner’s Disciplinary Tribunal has found a doctor guilty of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient which amounted to professional misconduct. The Tribunal also found the doctor guilty of making misleading statements to the Medical Council.

The doctor admitted to having a sexual relationship with a patient for two years while also providing medical care to the patient. He also admitted to making misleading statements to the Medical Council, by denying that he had a sexual relationship with the patient.

The doctor was censured and his registration was cancelled. The Tribunal also imposed conditions on the practitioner if he returned to practice. Those conditions include undertaking a sexual misconduct assessment, complying with all Council directions, recommendations and requirements with regard to his practice, at his own cost, and he must advise further employers of the Tribunal’s decisions and its orders for a period of three years after re-commencing practice.
