The Building Practitioners Board has found a builder liable for carrying out work in an incompetent manner and contrary to the building consent and fined him $3,500 plus ordered costs of $3,500.

The incompetent and incorrect work included incorrectly installed structural members, missing beams, missing bolts, wrong types of bolts, jointed beams and materials installed back to front.  Work was also carried out in the wrong sequence e.g. work on upper levels before the lower levels were structurally complete, raising safety concerns for those working on the building.

The builder also failed to supply a record of work and he had no good reason for that failure.

The findings will be recorded against the builder’s licence for three years.
