The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal has censured a teacher and made a note on his registration for two years following two driving offences committed by the teacher.

The offences were taking part in a race or an unnecessary exhibition of speed or acceleration and driving while disqualified.  These were the teacher’s fifth and sixth convictions for similar offences.

The Tribunal found that the teacher showed a disregard for the law and the Court by driving while disqualified so soon after that penalty was imposed and bad judgment for his excessive speed which brought him to the attention of the Police.

In addition the teacher was ordered to undergo a defensive driving course.  In the teacher’s favour was that there was no alcohol involved in any of the offending, nor did it involve anything to do with students, but his convictions showed that he was a bad example for students and he needed to mature and leave his traffic offending behind.
