A teacher had their registration cancelled after being convicted of unlawful sexual connection with a person under 16 (aged 14 at the time) and for supplying a controlled drug to a person under 18.

The teacher had met the student out of the school grounds and offered drugs in return for sex on more than one occasion. The student performed a sexual act on the teacher on one occasion.

The Court convicted the teacher and sentenced him to 9 months home detention. This resulted in an automatic cancellation of his registration to teach.

The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal censured the teacher. They could not do more as the teacher had already been struck off following the convictions.
