The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal has found a teacher guilty of serious misconduct for hitting students with a stick or ruler and for threatening to do so.  He was also found guilty of swearing at students, making inappropriate comments and asking a student for her phone number without an appropriate educational purpose.

The Tribunal decided that a six month suspension would have been appropriate, but reduced it to four months as the hitting incidents had occurred four years previously and the teacher had an otherwise long and unblemished career.  The teacher is also required to undergo professional development and mentoring for three years.
