The Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman has upheld a complaint regarding cover for temporary accommodation during house repairs.

The insured’s house was damaged, and the insurer agreed to pay for the repairs.  This included temporary accommodation during the repair work.

It was then discovered that the repairs were faulty and had to be redone.  The insurer agreed to pay for the further repairs but would not agree to pay all of the further temporary accommodation as there was a limit of $25,000 in the policy and much of that had been paid during the original repairs.

IFSO held that the full further accommodation should be paid as it was only required due to the faulty repairs the first time.
