Discontinuation of Kainga Ora First Home Grant: what now?
Purchasers have been able to access First Home Grants from Kāinga Ora for many years, which helped those meeting certain house price caps to get on the property ladder.
As of 22 May 2024 these grants were discontinued.
Kāinga Ora has since announced that any applications that were received before the announcement of the scheme’s closure (22 May 2024) will still be honoured for a further period of six months from that date.
Any approvals or pre-approvals granted before this time will also be honoured for a further period of six months, until November 2024, or until the expiry of your pre-approval letter (whichever is later).
Kāinga Ora have also confirmed that applicants have the opportunity to submit Agreements for Sale and Purchase for properties until the expiry of their pre-approval letter, even if the initial Agreement for which the final approval of the Grant was given did not proceed.
