The Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal has found a teacher guilty of serious misconduct for manhandling a student. The student was acting in a defiant way in class and refusing to leave the class when ordered to do so by the teacher. The teacher lifted the student by his clothing and carried him out of the class. The student later apologised to the teacher for his conduct. The school carried out an investigation and the teacher apologised for overreacting. The teacher resigned before the inquiry was complete.

The teacher acknowledged to the Disciplinary Tribunal that his behaviour crossed the line and was unacceptable. As this showed insight into his behaviour the Tribunal decided that a censure and further professional development training were the appropriate outcome.
