Peter Johnston
Special Expertise
As a Partner in charge of the Maori Issues team, Peter advises numerous organisation including Maori Trusts and Incorporations, Runanga, health providers, hapu and iwi groups on Treaty of Waitangi issues and issues relating to Maori land and Maori land legislation.
Peter's experience extends to providing advice to claimants on the direct negotiation of historical Waitangi Tribunal claims and advice to Government Departments on Maori Legal issues.
He also provides advice on issues relating to business and is currently the Chairman of Te Awe Wellington Maori Business Network. In this role he works closely with regional and national business networks.
As a lawyer his personable and professional approach has resulted in strong ongoing client relationships.
Background
Born and bred in Gisborne, Peter completed his law degree at Victoria University before returning to commence practice in Gisborne. He is married with two children and joined Rainey Collins in August 2001.
Interests
Peter spends most of his spare time with whanau and friends. His other interests include New Zealand history, good food and meeting people.
