James Johnston
James is Chairman of Partners and heads the Commercial Team. He has been a Partner since January 1994. He is a former Chair of the New Zealand Law Foundation.
He practices in the commercial and business fields and advises a number of organisations on governance and management issues, business development and property matters.
James is also the Lead Legal Counsel for the Ngati Porou Treaty Settlement Negotiations with the Crown.
James is an advisory Trustee for the Porou Ariki Trust (fisheries), a Trustee for Toi Whakaari, the New Zealand Drama School, is on the Samuel Marsden School Management Board and is a Specialist Advisor to the Legal Services Agency.
James, of Ngati Porou descent, has a strong sporting background. He is married with three children.
